The NC Justice Center bestows the Lifetime Champion of Justice Award to a few outstanding leaders from across North Carolina who have dedicated their lives to the fight for justice and inspire us all. They exemplify our mission — they are working to eliminate poverty in North Carolina, ensure the creation of an economy that works for everyone, and advance progressive and inclusive policies proven to advance equity and opportunity.

FORMER REPRESENTATIVE SUSAN FISHER

Susan Fisher is a seventh-generation native of Asheville. Susan served in the Legislature for nine terms with energy and a solid background of service. Susan retired from the House on January 31, 2022, after almost two decades of service. 

Rep. Fisher has been a champion of workers’ rights in North Carolina. In addition to her efforts on issues as diverse as improving our public schools, protecting consumers from predatory lenders, and preserving our natural environment, Rep. Fisher fiercely advocated for the rights of workers to have a living wage, paid time off for illness, and other policies that support working North Carolinians and their families.

She is truly a Lifetime Champion of Justice!
